Nearly 2,300 athletes took part in weekend competition
After an exceptionally busy weekend of high school and junior high volleyball, 19 champions were finally declared after 180 teams battled it out in 600 matches in 32 venues over two days at VolleyFest 2019 held in St. John’s ovewr the weekend.
The tournament, held primarily at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre for junior high divisions, and the Memorial University Field House for senior high divisions, is the largest school-based volleyball tournament in Canada.
The event saw 11 divisions with 19 tiers, playing on 32 courts in St. John’s and vicinity. It featured over 2,300 athletes, 2,500 spectators, 350 coaches, 80 officials and 24 conveners throughout the event.
VolleyFest 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of VolleyFest, and the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is hoping to make it the largest event ever.
