Mile One Centre

Mile One Centre is the largest an indoor arena and entertainment venue located in downtown St. John’s and is the home to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League. Opened in May 2001, the centre’s name comes from it being located at the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway. At full capacity the arena can seat 7,000 people (6,200 hockey) and has hosted some of the biggest entertainers from around the world. Previous events hosted at Mile One Centre include the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, AHL All Star Game, Skate Canada International and the TELUS Cup National Midget Hockey Championships to name a few.


NL Sports Centre / PowerPlex

Opened in 2008, the Newfoundland & Labrador Sports Centre is the pre-eminent sports competition and training venue in Atlantic Canada. The venue is conveniently located in the heart of St. John’s, in close proximity to hotels, the downtown core and the St. John’s International Airport, making it an ideal host for a variety of competitions and training camps.

With an unobstructed interior floor space of 64 meters by 45 meters, the centre is half the size of a soccer field, with a ceiling height of more than 10 meters. The Centre has the largest hardwood floor east of Montreal, which can be sub-divided into four equal spaces, providing it with the ability to accommodate any number of teams at one time. The venue has played host to a number of competitions over the years, including VolleyFest, Sportfest (2011), Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships (2013), World Cup of Darts (2013) and the 2014 Canadian Boccia Championships.


Techniplex

Techniplex is a state of the art indoor field turf facility for field sports. Originally established in 2006 to provide a regulation-sized indoor field to the Newfoundland soccer community to allow for year-round training, Techniplex has since expanded its client base to include other field sports. Though soccer is still the primary user of the facility, with the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association maintaining its headquarters on the premises, football, rugby, frisbee, softball, lacrosse and many other sports all use the facility to bolster their training capabilities.

 


MUN Fieldhouse

Memorial University’s basketball and volleyball teams compete and train at the Field House, a world-class recreation facility with a capacity of 1,400. The Field House is located on the campus of Memorial University on Westerland Road, opposite the Aquarena (off Prince Philip Drive or Elizabeth Avenue). The Field House is operated by The Works and has hosted a number of Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Championships.
