Easter Seals NL, in partnership with the Canadian Cerebral Palsy Sports Association will be hosting the 2014 Canadian Boccia Championships in St. John’s. Over 120 athletes will convene in St. John’s from their respective provinces, and Newfoundland and Labrador will be represented by 6 boccia athletes, two who were recently selected to join the Canadian National Training Program.
Easter Seals CEO Mark Lane describes boccia as a cross between curling and lawn bowling. He says it’s an exceptionally inclusive game. He says to watch someone with no arms throw the ball with their chin, is absolutely amazing. He says Brad Gushue would be jealous of the precision they get.
The championships will take place from March 27-30 at the NL Sports Centre.
