Bidding Success for STEP St. John’s

STEP St. John’s  is proud to announce its success in winning the bid to host the Tim Horton’s Brier in 2017.  This bid was successful due to the collaboration of many community partners, not the least of whom were the many curling fans who made deposits toward the purchase of some 2,200 tickets to the 2017 event.  STEP St. John’s would like to thank its community partners and the curling fans who made this possible.

STEP St. John’s Chair Danny Breen expressed his delight with Curling Canada’s decision, acknowledging that high profile sporting events such as the Tim Hortons Brier would not be possible without a collaborative effort by all STEP partners.  “From identification of the hosting opportunity through to submitting the official bid document, STEP St. John’s utilized its network to secure the necessary resources to make this a reality”.  Held annually since 1927, the Tim Hortons Brier is recognized as the signature curling event both in Canada and internationally and is estimated to generate between $12 and $15 million dollars in economic activity for the region.

Held from March 4-12, 2017, all Brier competition will be played at Mile One Centre, with the newly expanded St. John’s Convention Centre housing the world famous Brier Patch.

St. John’s is a proven candidate for hosting sporting events of any size or magnitude. With competition venues and accommodations as good as any in Canada, a database of experienced volunteers and a renowned culture of hospitality, we are a destination worth exploring for your next event.
