St. John’s Awarded 2016 National Senior Men’s Softball Championship

Softball Newfoundland and Labrador has confirmed St. John’s has been awarded the 2016 national senior men’s softball championship.

The tournament will run from August 31 to September 4, 2016The capital city last hosted the event in 2007 when the double fields at the Caribou Complex in Pleasantville were used. However, that facility is now primarily used for slo pitch, and much of the parking that existed in that area is now longer available, meaning Lions Park, home of the St. John’s senior and intermediate leagues, could be the main venue for the nationals.

Newfoundland and Labrador has produced the last four nationals champions, meaning the province will be aiming for a national record fifth straight title.

British Columbia’s Victoria Bates Construction won four consecutive Canadian championships from 1975 to 1978.
